After the Wax: Aftercare Tips

After the Wax: Aftercare Tips

As popular as waxing has become in recent years, there are still many people who are unsure about how to care for their skin in the aftermath of a waxing session. Unfortunately, that lack of insight can leave them unprepared for their aftercare needs, and can lead to mistakes that result in irritation, rashes, or other discomfort. While your spa will typically provide advice about aftercare, it can be helpful to have some of that information prior to your appointment so that you can plan accordingly. With that in mind, here are some of the most important aftercare tips you need to know to care for your skin after your waxing session.

Wear Loose Clothing

One thing you certainly need to know before you come into your appointment is that tight clothing can be a problem after the wax. The removal of body hair can also remove dead skin cells – which leaves a new skin layer exposed. That skin will be more sensitive for a day or two, so it is important to avoid anything that might irritate it. Loose clothing will provide that protection, and enable those new skin cells to breathe.

Avoid the Pool or Beach

Since your skin will be more sensitive after a wax, you shouldn’t plan on heading to the pool or beach for at least 24 hours after your treatment. The sun and heat can irritate the affected skin. By the same token, you should avoid saunas, hot tubs, tanning salons, sunbathing, and even hot baths for a day or two. That will give your skin the time it needs to properly heal.

Be Careful About the Skin Products You Use

Many perfumes, colognes, deodorants, and other topical products can irritate sensitive skin – especially when those products contain alcohol. You should leave those types of products on the shelf for at least a day after getting a wax treatment, to ensure that you don’t create unnecessary discomfort for yourself.

Consider Anti-Inflammatory Creams and Oils

Waxing can sometimes lead to minor inflammation, as the body’s immune system reacts to the perceived attack on its integrity. There are anti-inflammatory creams and various oils that can help to safeguard your skin and soothe that immune reaction. It’s a good idea to apply those types of topical agents to your skin after the wax, and for several days thereafter. That can provide your skin with the added boost it needs to stave off serious irritation and possible minor infection.

At Tiffany Beauty Spa, we want your waxing experience to be every bit as enjoyable as you hope it can be. While hair removal can be a somewhat traumatic event for your skin, the proper aftercare can minimize those effects, and even make them all but unnoticeable. Focus on these after-wax care techniques, and you should be able to avoid most discomfort and irritation.
